Weekend -NYC Half and More
I began my weekend on Friday night by going to the NYC Half Expo and getting everything for the race on Sunday. I must say I was disappointed that they ran out of size XS shirts, thought they never fit me anyway. We got some great FREE goodies in the bags - I say free but you really do pay for it with the $117 entry fee. Poland Spring water bottle, large face wash, small Degree men’s deodorant (need to find a guy to pass that off on), etc. I also got some cereal and Odwalla bars from the Expo. Not bad. I stayed away from the Larabars as I have found those to be pretty disgusting in the past. It wasn’t a large expo, but just enough stimulation for the few minutes that we spent there. JD and I decide that we needed to stop and get a quick drink because we would not be able to participate in any St. Patty’s Day shenanigans with the impending race. At Rosa Mexicano I got the Sangria - it’s phenomenal and budget friendly - $13 but you get about three full drinks out of it. That was enough for me! I went home and finished a great book I was reading and had some pasta before hitting the sack early, knowing that I would be losing sleep from anxiety the day after.
Saturday was filled with a lot of fun, but not a lot of spending. I got two $1movies from the Blockbuster machine at Duane Reade - Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT! Does not do the book justice) and the Ides of March (meh, it was okay). SH came over to watch the first with me after we traveled up to 16 Handles for some free froyo! I had a group on from a while back that was expiring, so we took advantage. Their machine wasn’t working and they tried to get away with not letting us use it, good things SH is pushy and got both of our froyos for FREE and they were over the $10 I would have had to spend. I broke and got some pizza (twice :x) for my meals later in the day - only $6, I needed the carbs!
Sunday morning’s 5am wake up call was unwelcome, but I knew that I would feel good once I got to the start line. I managed to somehow pull out an amazing PR and got a sub 2 hour half marathon! This has been my goal for some time now, I was completely elated when I finished the race that I started to tear up. After eating my mushy apple and a half a bagel it was off to Shake Shack to get some celebratory meat in me. I don’t think I’ll ever eat again. So much good food (in deliciousness, not health content) this weekend. I’d say it was a very good weekend.
So what did I spend:
- Rosa Mexicano Sangria - $14
- Blockbuster - $2
- Pizza - $6
Not too bad - $22. Time to make this weeks budget!
P.S. - I have the best boyfriend, he came to me from Long Island after drinking all day for St. Patty’s Day and cheered me on at 7:30am!
